The Fadó Viking Village sponsored by Genzyme
30th November-23rd December 2012
In its largest production to date, Fadó animated the French Church, Greyfriar’s during the month of December transforming it into a Viking Village. This animation proved popular amongst adults and children, locals and tourists alike. Purpose built shelters housed Viking craft workers as they demonstrated and interacted with audiences. Wood turners, basket weavers, tablet weavers, leather workers and blacksmiths also passed on their knowledge to the younger Vikings. Viking families went about their daily routines, preparing and cooking food and working towards the celebration of Yule, the Viking Christmas.
On weekdays, during school hours, two Vikings curated the village. Half hour sessions covered the lives of Vikings and an opportunity to see and touch weapons, clothing, animal hides and dried foods was provided.
Almost twelve thousand visitors came through the gates to visit the experience Fadó Viking Village during Winterval.
